Having lived in a number of different countries, I’ve been fortunate (?) to experience very different offerings from a number of estate agents.  It should be a fairly straigh forward process. Person has a house to sell > Person sells houses > People looking for houses to buy. Easy. Or so yould think.  Arriving in France was a real eye opener for me.  Huge fees, agents who knew next to nothing about the property they’re marketing, terrible photographs, and homes that were miles from where they’re listed – as though their location should be kept secret.  

Here in France, there’s a very healthy tradition of people selling their own homes – almost 40% of the total.  We’ve all seen the ubiquitous AV sign stuck on the front gate. In fact, that’s how I bought my current home.  I opened the gate and knocked on the door.  The only thing was, it was a miracle I even saw the sign.  Then I just turned up on the door, unannounced. Not ideal for the homeowner.  It would have been nice if I could have seen the house prior to calling….that’s when I thought of avmaison.
